Located in Baixo Alentejo, on the left bank of the Guadiana River, the region of Amareleja has climatic and geomorphological characteristics particularly challenging for the culture of the vineyard. In this territory of great thermal amplitudes and long summers, of intense heat, throughout history, several nations have recognized its agricultural potential – especially for wine and olive production. It is presumed that it was the Tartessians that first started here in the domestication of the vines and in the following introduction of wine in the region. Then came the Phoenicians, the Greeks and only then the Romans – who generalized the culture of vine and wine in the Alentejo.<\/p>\n

The mark of the ancestral wisdom of the Roman Empire remains in our days, both in the viticultural practices and in the traditional winemaking in clay pots (amphora<\/em>).<\/p>\n
